2008 Beartooth's Trip Planning

First Rock Lake, our tentative last night's camp in the Beartooths.

This one could be the trip of my life. If things play out the way I'm hoping they will, I'll be doing a 5-night warm up in Wyoming's Cloud Peak Wilderness plus another full week trip in the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness.

Joining me again this year will be the dynamic duo from Madison, Reed and Ward. Both these gents had a marvelous time on their first mountain backpacking trip to the Winds last year and were ready to sign on before we even got back home to Wisconsin.

Giving this trip an international flair will be the "Canadian Dude", Brad, from Waterloo, Ontario. Brad has done some interesting hikes and should have some great stories from his trip up to the Arctic Circle to tell around camp.

I've also put out an open invitation to former Green Bay Packer quarterback Brett Favre, figuring he should have plenty of free time this summer. If he comes along, great. If not, well, it'll be his loss.

After poring over Google Earth views for the last few weeks I've come to the conclusion that this will be the most physically demanding trip I've ever attempted. We'll be hiking at 9,000-10,000'+ and doing a 3-4 day section (lower miles) offtrail. I will find the easiest/safest way through the maze of lakes once we leave the trail behind.

This should be a good one, especially if Brett Favre decides to join us. I bet he'd have some good stories to tell.
