In real time the trip east took us a about 29 hours. This includes stops of 45 minutes for lunch, almost 40 for dinner, a little over 2 hours for a nap and about 4 hours to pick up the kids. Driving time excluding the detour to Janesville would have been about 24 hours.

Driving through the warm Northern Plains night was not as difficult as I thought. On the way out we were running on adrenaline and the excitement of going to Glacier for the first time. I had a pretty good idea that we were going to make great time as I was feeling more alert than i thought possible.

Minneapolis didn't piss me off nearly as much as it did on the way out. Of course, we were about the only ones on the interstate. We arrived just before 0300 so there weren't a lot of cars to block traffic. At 0322 we were back in Wisconsin. I was very tired but drove on for another hour. that was about as far as I could go without putting us in danger. Since we were going to be very early picking up the boys in Janesville, I decided to stop near Tomah at a rest area for a couple hours of sleep. The rest did us good as we felt fairly refreshed for the two hour drive to Janesville and my boys.

At this time it really hit me: we were almost home. I immediately began scheming to get back to Glacier the next summer.

Fitting the boys into the back seat was tight, but we managed to cram them in. I had done the stretch from Janesville back to Manitowoc a million times before, and just like that we were back home. Over 4000 miles, 400 pictures and a million memories. I can't wait to get back.
